Taurus

Yin, Fixed, Earth

A Yin or Feminine sign or planet is receptive and oriented inward.

Fixed signs have inertia. They want to keep doing what they’re doing.

Earth signs are stable and grounded. They are solid and often related to our bodies and our senses.

Earth is considered a Dry element, which means that it has a tendency to separate things into their distinct parts. Earth is also Cold, which slows things down and can bring things together into solid form.

Taurus and these Qualities

As Fixed Earth, Taurus is considered the slowest sign of the zodiac. Taurus is also considered the most resistant to change, some would say stubborn. Taurus is associated with comfort and the ability to feel at peace by staying where you already are. Taurus is easy-going and grounded.

All Earth signs are associated with the physical or material world. Taurus is the sign most associated with the senses and the physical body. Taurus is sensual, meaning Taurus appreciates good food, fine fabrics and hands-on experiences like cooking or working in the garden. Taurus appreciates the beauty of the natural world.

Earth signs are also about the practical matters you have to address in life. They are about the day to day habits and rhythm. There is a simplicity and quietness to Taurus as they make steady progress toward their goals.

Rulership of the Body

Taurus rules the neck and the mouth. This has to do with nourishment for the body.

There are also biblical references correlating the neck with stubbornness. These verses refer to the people as “stiff-necked” or having a neck that’s “an iron sinew”. These verses have to do with rebellion or refusing to listen and change.

In my opinion, Taurus can and does change, but they have thoughtfully considered their course and their goals. They are not going to change with the winds or the emotional tides or the flash of inspiration. They will move steadily forward through the storms, incorporating changes that make sense to them in a slow and deliberate way.

Rulership

Taurus is ruled by Venus. Venus is associated with attraction, harmony and beauty. In Taurus, Venus can slow down and focus on the senses and the physicality of the body and the Earth. Taking time to just “be” can be refreshing. There is also hands-on activity and achievement of goals in Taurus, so a balance can be achieved.

The Moon is exalted in Taurus. The Moon is about nurturing and being nurtured. The sensuality of Taurus can be very comfortable and nurturing. The Moon also represents our past and our history and its impact on our emotions, attitudes and habits. Taurus appreciates traditions and gravitates to what is proven. The Moon moves quickly through our charts. Taurus can help the moon slow down and ground through tangible experiences and pleasures.

More Thoughts on Taurus

Taurus is not interested in abstract concepts or complex language. Taurus speaks plainly and is direct.

Farming and agriculture are associated with Taurus.

Vibrational Astrology

In Vibrational Astrology, each sign is an approach to life, it’s how we do things, it’s a phase in making our contribution to life. Taurus’ contribution of life is to be in tune with the natural flow and rhythm of life. Taurus is an internal energy that was hard to see in the extreme sampling research. It works from within. Taurus energy wants to listen, feel and instinctively sense what to do and when to do it. In the stage of development that Taurus represents, the intention is to allow life to unfold with a natural flow.

In actual people, this is an unconscious instinctual drive that can come out in different ways. In this case, it was difficult to see at all. Several of the extreme sampling examples explicitly contradict the idea of the stable, grounded, gentle Taurean that astrologers would expect. The theory is that early traumatic events may be behind this. Perhaps chaotic, unstable life situations are especially disruptive to those with energy that instinctively tries to feel and flow with life (especially during childhood). On the other hand, a natural environment can feel soothing to this energy because it changes at a slow, steady cyclical rate.

In Vibrational Astrology, the zodiac sign is secondary. It can help us understand what the person is trying to do (whether they are conscious of it or not). In the case of Taurus, the underlying motivation is to develop in accordance with the flow of nature by instinctively listening or feeling its way.
